The village of Uzumlu is 500m above sea level in a fertile plain surrounded by an imposing mountain range.
Uzumlu which is situated eighteen kilometer's (15 minutes drive) inland from the bustling harbor town of Fethiye. It is situated in a lush green valley, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful mountains. Uzumlu lies at the outskirts of Cadianda, the antique city of Lykia. Old Anatolian houses made of wood and stone queue up in a line with their peaceful courtyards, forming the charming streets of this interesting village. Some describe it as being reminiscent of Switzerland, only with sun!. Uzumlu will appeal to people who want a scenic and tranquil setting, whilst having easy access to all the facilities that nearby Fethiye,and Calis Beach have to offer. Within 25 minutes you can be at the beautiful beach and stunning lagoon of Oludeniz. This beautiful area offers water sports, paragliding and much much more, both sporting and cultural.
The beauty of the village has attracted a few foreigners, but Uzumlu remains a working village relying on agriculture and traditional crafts. The village's name translates as "with grapes" and vines producing a variety of grapes abound. Fields of cotton, sesame, aniseed, wheat, barley and summer vegetables surround the village while on the mountain slopes apples, pomegranates, almonds, pears and olives are grown.
The heart of the village is a square bordered by home-produce shops, a post office, a mosque as well as the inevitable tea-house. Wandering around the small lanes that fan out from the square you can see women weaving cotton on traditional pedal looms in front of their houses. There are a few basic restaurants with an excellent modern wine bar offering local wines and good food. Closer to the villa there is a smart restaurant just a short stroll away and there are three other restaurants within a short drive from the villa.
